MA in History and Social Studies Education at Iona University

A retired HS educator after 35 years, Jeanne Claire Cotnoir holds a BA in History, MS Education – 7 – 12 Social Studies, and MA in History in which my thesis was an analysis of the geographical features of the east and west coastal regions of the Atlantic Ocean. I used the historical event of the Atlantic slave trade and demonstrated how the soil similarities contributed to the development of the Atlantic Slave Trade. I am a member of Alpha, Alpha, Alpha Iona’s Chapter of the National Historical Honor Society.

Jeanne Claire Cotnoir taught social studies for 40 years in various schools, finally retiring from teaching at Briarcliff High School. She also has been an adjunct World History instructor at Iona University.

  • National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grants in Middle Eastern studies and Transatlantic Slave Trade and in 2017
  • Honored by Westchester Black Scholars as Teacher of the Year.
  • Participated in 2019 in the Rwandan Genocide Study Tour run by Carl Wilkins.
  • Worked on Human Rights Leadership Institutes and the Living History project.

Jeanne Claire joined ENU in 2021 and joined our Board in 2022.
